Hiring for Fit
One of the best starting points for me was to see the benefits that I could get from using competencies with the tips provided by Should you hire for job or organizational fit. It really helped me to see what I could get from this system.
One of the trends that we heard about a lot at a conference I attended was that we should look for employees who fit in with our team, rather than hiring purely for ability. I was skeptical about this, as we need to make sure that people can do their job before we see if they fit in right, but then I read Hiring for Culture Fit, and saw the benefits I could get from doing so.
Measuring & Developing Employees
Once I have the right talent on board, I needed a way to measure my employees' performance, which I found in Best practices for testing to measure employees. It showed me how proper testing would lead to better results when developing employees.
