The human element of HR

June 19, 2017 Caitlin Leishman

Although digitization has come to the forefront in today’s business world, it’s important to not lose sight of the key component of HR, the employees themselves. You can have the best technology and the newest gadgets, but at the end of the day every aspect of your organization comes down to people. Many jobs and roles today require a high level of ‘out of the box’ thinking, creativity, and problem-solving that isn’t currently possible by the artificial intelligence sweeping the market.

Regardless of the size of your organization, the human element matters. The people representing your company need to feel valued and included, and when they do performance improves as a result. You’ll be more profitable, be a more effective leader, and in general have a healthier, more enjoyable work environment.

However, it’s important to not ignore digitization, as it is currently improving retention through better feedback methods, facilitating employee connection, and of course is providing important advances within talent management itself. HRSG’s own CompetencyCore software is an excellent example, as it has grown and evolved through the years to become the powerful platform it is today!

Competencies allow you to focus on the human element of HR because they streamline the talent management process. By defining qualities that are difficult to measure, such as behaviors for success, they allow you to avoid extraneous detail and focus on what really matters. You can target your interview and selection tools, create personalized employee development programs, and engage with talent on a more effective level as a result. Competencies allow you to see the details without losing sight of the big picture, or the needs of employees.
